Strings Revisited returns to the sound-world of the “Strings”
recording (Juhani Aaltonen & Otto Donner: Strings, Love Records
LRCD 160) that was chosen the best Finnish jazz recording of the
year 1976. The “Strings Revisited” project was born from the idea
of building on the music of the original “Strings” as a starting
point to create new music. Three compositions already included on
the original “Strings” were recorded as new arrangements. In addition,
Henrik Otto Donner created three new compositions for saxophone
and strings. Besides Juhani Aaltonen, Henrik Otto Donner and the
Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, the “Strings Revisited” record also features
jazz legends Reggie Workman on bass and Andrew Cyrille on drums.
Strings Revisited was recorded at Finnvox in Helsinki, Finland,
on November 22 and 23, 2002 with Dan Tigerstedt as the recording
engineer. The recording was mixed by Henrik Otto Donner and Esa
Santonen and mastered by Henrik Otto Donner at DER in Tammisaari,
Finland.
